The Business Broker Project in Hastings & St Leonards

The Business Broker Project is part of a drive to reverse the spiral of decline in deprived neighbourhoods, as set out in the Government’s National Strategy for Neighbourhood renewal.

What’s it all about?

Business brokerage is all about encouraging the involvement of the business sector in the regeneration of our town.

The project aims to provide opportunities, at both operational and strategic levels, for the private sector to work with the statutory, community, voluntary, charitable and education sectors in Hastings & St Leonards.

Current Initiatives:

Let's do Business - Inter-trading Exhibition

Enterprise Learning in Local Secondary Schools:

Local employers often report that young people do not have the right skills set - both personal skills and traditional educational attainment - to meet their recruitment needs.

To resolve this issue we have been working in partnership with Magnified Learning together with local businesses to develop the enterprise capability of local young people.

Our Enterprise Learning programs focus on three areas:

  1. Enterprise capability
  2. Financial capability
  3. Business and economic understanding
GS Challenge - group work with staff

By developing enterprise capability, young people may either opt to start their own business, or use the learnt skills to be a flexible and learning employee of an existing organisation.

Ex-offenders into Employment:

Through partnership with Sussex Probation and HMP Lewes, the Business Broker project is involved in integrating ex-offenders back into the workplace.

Employers have the opportunity to tour Lewes Prison and witness the training programmes in operation.
