The Town Centre Partnership is made up of representatives
from public, private, business support and community organisations
working to a common vision. The Partnership’s representatives
are responsible for the production, monitoring and review of the
Town Centre Strategy which defines the aspirations and key actions
required by each partner to achieve lasting success. |

The current strategy, the full copy of which is available
by clicking on the link below, sets out the key focal points –
- To deliver planned employment, retail, education, housing and healthcare
developments
- To redistribute employment space in the town centre
- To ensure the town centres are attractive and safe for residents,
students, shoppers and visitors
- To ensure the town centres are accessible by local public transport,
people with disabilities and by walking and cycling
- To develop a family based evening economy
- To respond to the diverse needs and tastes of the population
- To be able to cater for the increasing numbers of students and creative
businesses in the area.
The Town Centre Manager and staff
The Town Centre Partnership has identified the services they want the
Town Centre Manager and his staff to undertake on their behalf in support
of the strategy
These include
- Communicating with businesses, residents and other organisations
- Managing the meetings of the Town Centre Partnership and the Business
Crime Reduction Partnership
- Contributing to the work of Council cross cutting groups (eg public
realm improvement)
- Continuing to administer Barwatch on behalf of the Safer Hastings
Partnership
- Continuing to support or directly manage a range of footfall generating
events and promotional opportunities for local businesses and organizations
- Working with town centre business associations to facilitate the implementation
of viable business development ideas and funding bids
- Working with Shopmobility and Dial-A Ride on town centre initiatives
for disabled visitors
- Continuing to promote inward investment and business start up
- Continuing to provide Christmas festive displays
- Contributing to activities that will mitigate the negative impact
of new large-scale developments in the town centre and the economic
recession of 2009/10
- Monitoring the performance of the town centre
- Maintaining a membership scheme
